The Early Years Alliance online baby massage course is a five-week virtual course that enables you to learn baby massage strokes in the comfort of your own home.
This is a course for babies from birth till crawling age.
The course is based on the principles of developing closeness, connection and communication between parent and baby through loving, nurturing touch.
The benefits of baby massage for you and your baby:
- Confidence: Becoming more confident in handling your baby and better at recognising their needs.
- Improved positive interactions: with your baby.
- Improved bonding: massage is a great way for you, family members and siblings to bond with your baby.
- Improved sleep: massage can soothe your baby and help them to sleep.
- Physical benefits for your baby: improving weight gain, aiding digestion, improving circulation, and easing teething pain.
Studies show that baby massage is linked to a reduction in the incidence of post-natal depression, and parents notice improvements in baby's relaxation and sleep, as well as their own confidence in recognising their babies’ needs and feeling more relaxed themselves overall as a parent.
What will I learn?
During the virtual sessions, your instructor will demonstrate baby massage using a demonstration doll.
Alongside sharing massage strokes, the instructor will also give you an overview of key theory such as understanding babies' different states, the importance of both verbal and non-verbal language, and the optimum massage conditions that will help make massage successful for you and your baby.
Who will teach the course?
The course is delivered by instructors from the Early Years Alliance who have been trained and certificated by The International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM) - a global organisation and the world-class standard for the training and teaching of baby massage.
The IAIM baby massage course draws from both the Indian and Swedish massage traditions, as well as incorporating principles from yoga and reflexology.
How do I take part in the course and what do I need to take part?
The course is delivered by via Zoom so you will need access to the internet, and a connection with the Zoom platform.
Ahead of the start of the course, we will send you a bottle of massage oil, an information sheet about baby massage and its benefits, and a parent handbook outlining the strokes you will learn on the course.
You will need a quiet safe space where you and your baby can relax together.
You do not require any previous knowledge of baby massage as you will learn everything you need to know during your course. Once you have completed your course, you can pick and choose specific massage routines depending on your baby’s needs.
How long is the course and how much does it cost?
The course comprises a one-hour session a week for five weeks and costs £60 per person per course.
